RCCG freedom court parish holds community cleanup for 18th anniversary

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Freedom Court Parish, Lagos Youth Province 1, organised a community cleanup exercise and health outreach as part of activities marking its 18th anniversary.

The outreach took place on Monday at Cardoso Street, Mushin, Lagos.

The event attracted a large turnout of church members and aimed to promote environmental sanitation and improve residents’ well-being.

Participants cleared refuse from drainage channels, picked up litter along the street, and swept public spaces to create a cleaner and healthier environment.

Speaking on the exercise, Pastor Joshua Taiwo, a member of the church’s management team, said the initiative was inspired by the teachings of Matthew 25, which emphasise service to humanity.

“Ministry is not just about sitting in church; it is about going out to be a blessing to people and making a meaningful difference in society,” he said.

Taiwo explained that the cleanup exercise and health outreach formed part of the church’s Christian Social Responsibility Programme (SRP).

He noted that through the SRP, the church regularly undertakes projects and interventions aimed at supporting communities and vulnerable groups.

Taiwo added that the initiative reflected the church’s commitment to practical Christianity by addressing environmental and social challenges while meeting the health needs of residents.

The Secretary of the Cardoso-Agoro Residents Development Association, Mr Rahmon Bakare, commended the church for the intervention, describing it as a welcome development for the community.

He urged other religious organisations, non-governmental organisations, corporate bodies, community associations, and public-spirited individuals to emulate the gesture, noting that community development should not be left solely to the government.

Bakare added that the programme aligns with the community’s commitment to a clean and healthy environment, describing the intervention as timely, especially during the rainy season.

Some residents who benefited from the outreach expressed appreciation to the church, noting that cleaner surroundings and increased health awareness would improve living conditions in the community.

The anniversary outreach formed part of RCCG Freedom Court Parish’s efforts to promote community development and environmental sustainability through service-oriented initiatives.
