President Bola Tinubu has approved a six-month extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Adewale Adeniyi.
Adeniyi’s initial tenure, which was set to expire on August 1, 2026, will now end in February 2027.
This was announced in a statement by the President’s spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on Friday in Abuja.

Onanuga explained that the extension allows Adeniyi to consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window project and ensure a smooth leadership transition.
During this period, Adeniyi will work with the NCS Board to oversee the promotion of eligible officers to Comptroller of Customs and the retirement of officers who have reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 or completed 35 years of service.
Adeniyi joined the NCS after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in the late 1980s.
He advanced through the ranks, becoming Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, Assistant Comptroller-General in 2020, and Acting Deputy Comptroller-General in January 2023.
President Tinubu appointed him as Comptroller-General of Customs in June 2023.
