Residents of Benin, Edo, expressed excitement on Thursday over the nearly completed Ramat Park Flyover and urged the state to expedite its completion to ease traffic congestion.
They made these remarks during Gov. Monday Okpebholo’s inspection tour of the construction site.
Okpebholo, addressing journalists, expressed satisfaction with the progress but said the project is expected to be finished in November.
He noted that the roads around the flyover are now more beautiful, unlike in the past, and contribute to the area’s improved appearance, which was previously affected by flooding.
“We hope President Bola Tinubu will come to commission this project in November, during my two-year anniversary in office.
“We would have achieved significant infrastructural progress, and the park should also be ready by then. This place is a tourist attraction.
“You can see how happy the children and residents are—they’re excited and having fun. That’s the real purpose,” he said.
The governor also stated that the removal of fuel subsidy by President Tinubu was the right decision, as no governor is currently owing salaries thanks to the federal allocations.
Flyover Project Manager Li Jianshou said the project is over 95% complete.
He explained that the remaining work includes installing street lights, junction expansion, road marking, and painting the bridge.
Jianshou assured that the project would be ready for commissioning in November, as promised.
Residents, especially traders, gathered in large numbers, singing praises for the governor and his team.
Mrs. Queen Ehanire said Benin is more beautiful now compared to previous years and praised Okpebholo as the best governor so far.
She added that the project has transformed Ikpoba Hill and restored hope among local residents and business owners.
Mr. James Osaibgovo stated that the project has boosted confidence among business owners and would attract more visitors and commercial activities once completed.
Mr. David Uwadia, a commercial driver, said the redesigned park would help reduce traffic congestion and improve transportation in the area.
