The proprietress of Young Talents Nursery and Primary School in Ilorin, Mrs. Mary Olushola, has urged parents to stop harassing teachers who discipline pupils.
Speaking with reporters on Saturday, Olushola said teachers should be allowed to correct students who misbehave or disrespect authority.
She noted that an increasing number of parents now storm schools to confront teachers instead of supporting efforts to instill discipline.
“Most children lack proper moral upbringing and deliberately flout school rules and disrespect their teachers without remorse.
“Teachers try to correct them and guide them on the right path, but some parents frown at such efforts and come to intimidate teachers,” she said.
Olushola explained that while teachers correct pupils to build character, some parents see it as an attack and respond with threats and intimidation.
She warned that shielding children from correction does more harm than good.
“If parents don’t allow their children to be corrected, such children may become threats to themselves, their families, and society in the future,” she added.
According to her, most teachers act in the best interest of pupils, but excessive pampering and emotional reactions from parents undermine these efforts.
“The more you threaten teachers to protect your children, the more you jeopardize their future.
“Stop bullying teachers and let your children be corrected,” she urged.
She concluded by advising parents to adopt firm but balanced discipline at home and avoid over-indulgence that could lead to long-term regret.
