Mr. Akinola Idowu, Chairman of the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, has urged residents to embrace the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation for its numerous benefits.
Idowu made the appeal during Saturday’s sanitation exercise at the council’s secretariat.
He emphasized that cleanliness is a collective responsibility vital for preventing diseases and promoting healthier communities.
Idowu praised residents who participated in the cleanup and urged the adoption of proper waste disposal habits to maintain clean homes, streets, and business premises.
He stated that the Lagos State Government’s reintroduction of the program in April demonstrates its commitment to a cleaner, safer, and sustainable environment.
The chairman also announced that the council has acquired an additional waste compactor, increasing the total to two, to improve waste collection and disposal.
He called on community leaders, market associations, and youth groups to mobilize residents for regular sanitation efforts, stressing that sanitation should not be seen as a monthly activity but as an ongoing responsibility requiring cooperation from all.
Idowu assured residents of the council’s commitment to environmental sustainability and pledged intensified awareness campaigns to promote a culture of cleanliness.
