Mrs Abiodun Abegunde, Founder of Cute Kids Haven Foundation, has called on the government to intensify efforts to secure the release of children abducted by kidnappers across the country.
Abegunde made the call on Wednesday during the foundation’s 2026 Children’s Day celebration held for over 200 children in the Ikotun community.
The event was the fourth edition of the annual Children’s Day celebration organised by the foundation.
According to her, the government must do everything possible to ensure the safe return of children still in captivity.
“To make this year’s celebration worthwhile, we call on the government to do everything within its power to facilitate the release of children in captivity,” she said.
She stated that the foundation was established to support children and put smiles on their faces.
“Every child deserves to be celebrated and we are here to make that happen. We celebrate the joys of childhood, the pride of the nation, and the leaders of tomorrow,” she added.
Mrs Victoria Bello, a missionary and volunteer at the event, advised parents and guardians to raise their children in the fear of God to protect them from negative influences.
Bello said she remained committed to serving children and appealed to the government to make the country safer and more conducive for them.
Also speaking, Mrs Olayinka Konu, a teacher, urged parents to encourage their children to acquire skills for a better future.
She described children as flowers that beautify the world and called for greater commitment to their welfare and development.
“My children always look forward to this event every year and I appreciate the foundation for its humanitarian services,” she said.
Konu also prayed for peace and harmony in the country as well as the safe return of abducted children.
The children at the event expressed excitement and prayed for the continued growth of the foundation.
Miss Inioluwa Olajide said she felt privileged to celebrate with other children and looked forward to next year’s event.
Master Oluwaseun Chiazor called on the government to improve security to prevent attacks and the abduction of children.
“I thank the organisers for putting smiles on our faces. This makes us feel special. I hope that one day we will become great leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
