Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has been affirmed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as its sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.
The affirmation was announced on Thursday by the Chairman of the APC Governorship Affirmation Committee, Muhammad Mukhtar Birniwa, during a party gathering attended by delegates, stakeholders, and supporters in Sokoto.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, Governor Aliyu expressed appreciation to party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to consolidate on the achievements recorded by his administration over the past three years.
He said his administration would continue to prioritise security, infrastructure development, religious affairs, and social welfare, while assuring residents of greater dividends of democracy if re-elected for a second term.
“I want to assure the people of Sokoto State that we will continue to do all that is humanly possible to support our security agencies in curbing banditry and other criminal activities in the state,” the governor said.
Aliyu also appealed to residents to sustain their support for government policies and programmes, describing public cooperation as critical to the state’s development efforts.
The governor further assured new members joining the APC that they would be treated fairly and fully integrated into the party without discrimination.
Speaking at the event, APC leader in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, commended Governor Aliyu for what he described as his impressive performance and commitment to development across the state.
“Mr Governor, I am very pleased with the way you are addressing the challenges that had hindered the development of our state in the past,” Wamakko said.
Earlier, the Sokoto State APC Chairman, Haruna Adiya, highlighted achievements of the administration, including the payment of outstanding gratuities, regular salary payments, youth empowerment programmes, and support for Islamic affairs.
According to him, these achievements informed the decision of party members to endorse the governor for another term in office.
In his remarks, Birniwa described the developmental projects executed by the Aliyu administration as visible and impactful, noting that the committee would relay its observations to the APC National Secretariat.
He also praised the cordial relationship between Governor Aliyu and Senator Wamakko, describing it as a major factor behind the successes recorded by the APC-led administration in the state.
Birniwa further commended delegates for conducting themselves peacefully during the affirmation exercise.
