The Kaduna State Government, through the Ministry of Business Innovation and Technology (MBIT), says that no fewer than 4,000 students are currently undergoing training in various vocational and technical trades.
Mr. Noel Bali, Director of Innovation and Skills Development at the Ministry, stated this in a release made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Monday.
Bali outlined the activities of the Institute of Vocational and Skills Development since it was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025.
He noted that support from the State Governor, Uba Sani, has significantly contributed to the rapid growth of the institute and its increasing recognition both within Nigeria and internationally.
“Between June and July 2025, the National Board for Technical Education approved all 14 trade areas offered at the institute’s campuses in Rigachikun, Soba, and Samaru Kataf.
This approval paved the way for the implementation of various technical and vocational education programs under the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).
Following the institute’s commissioning, the Kaduna State government approved the recruitment of instructors under permanent, contract, and part-time arrangements.
The contract and part-time instructors are experienced industry practitioners engaged to strengthen practical skills acquisition, while permanent staff are expected to grow through mentorship and continuous training,” he said.
Bali added that, under the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative, the Federal Ministry of Education deployed 220 students to the Rigachikun campus and 210 students to Soba.
He stated that the first batch had completed their training, and the institute was now awaiting the posting of beneficiaries for the second cohort.
According to the director, 60 newly recruited staff members have been trained as Quality Assurance Assessors (QAA), a move he described as a step toward institutionalizing the NSQF at the institute.
It was also reported that some of the current trade areas include POP, painting, masonry, tiling, plumbing, pipe fitting, carpentry and joinery, welding, and fabrication.
