A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to about 75 years imprisonment in a 12-count amended money laundering case involving N33 billion.
ASHENEWS recalls that the Federal High Court, on May 7, 2026, convicted Mamman on the same fraud and money laundering case filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court found Mamman guilty of illegally diverting funds meant for the Mambilla and Zungeru Hydroelectric Power projects during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The evidence of the prosecution witnesses is quite believable,” the judge said during the conviction, adding that the former minister failed to effectively challenge allegations of conspiracy and criminal breach of trust levelled against him by the EFCC.
Delivering judgment on Monday, Justice James Omotosho held that the prison terms — mostly seven years on several counts — would run consecutively, with no option of fine.

The court, however, sentenced the former minister to three years’ imprisonment with an option of N10 million fine on one of the counts.
Justice Omotosho also criticised Mamman for failing to appear in court to hear his sentencing and ordered national and international security agencies to arrest him if found.
The court further ordered the forfeiture of all foreign currencies recovered from his residence by the EFCC, alongside the confiscation of his property.
