The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has explained why it declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted, saying she is being investigated over alleged criminal conspiracy, abuse of office and diversion of public funds.
The anti-graft agency, in a notice published on its official website on Saturday, said the former minister was declared wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into the alleged mismanagement of public funds during her time in office.
According to the commission, Farouq, 52, is an indigene of Zamfara State, with her last known address listed as EN008, Okpo River, off Agulu Street, Maitama, Abuja.
“The public is hereby notified that Sadiya Umar Farouq, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, and diversion of public funds,” the EFCC stated.
The commission urged anyone with useful information on her whereabouts to contact any of its offices nationwide or the nearest police station.
Farouq served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development under former President Muhammadu Buhari between 2019 and 2023.
Reports indicated that an FCT High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja, had earlier issued a warrant for her arrest after she allegedly failed to appear for arraignment in a case involving alleged financial misconduct.
