Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State has urged female aspirants to remain resolute and intensify grassroots mobilization to achieve their political ambitions.
He gave the advice on Tuesday in Katsina while receiving a women’s political group, the “Reserve Seat for Women Movement,” led by his wife, Zulaihat.
“Do not be discouraged by electoral setbacks. Active participation in politics, regardless of immediate success, helps build experience and credibility for future opportunities,” he said.
The governor noted that commitment and consistency often determine the level of support aspirants attract from stakeholders. He also highlighted provisions of the Electoral Act, which allow for consensus or direct primaries, urging women to understand and navigate these processes effectively.
Radda emphasized the importance of discipline and decorum in political engagement, describing them as critical to earning public trust and acceptance. He added that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains well-positioned to guide and support women in their political pursuits.
He also encouraged religious leaders to continue educating the public on the role of women in politics from an ethical and religious perspective.
Earlier, the governor’s wife said the “Reserve Seat for Women Movement” originated from the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum following a proposal by the National Women Leader.
APC State Chairman Bashir Gambo-Saulawa said women made up about 75% of voters in the last elections and assured that the party is committed to integrating them fully into the political process. He added that APC has approved a 50% reduction in nomination fees for female aspirants, urging compliance with constitutional provisions.
APC State Women Leader Aisha Matazu reaffirmed the party’s commitment to inclusiveness and increased participation of women in politics. State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Aisha Aminu-Malumfashi, highlighted the critical role of women in governance and nation-building.
Religious leaders, including Sheikh Abu Ammar and Murjanatu Duwan, also addressed the gathering, stressing the need for ethical conduct and adherence to moral standards in political engagement.
