Members of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) have commended the rapid transformation of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) under the leadership of its Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of NRC, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
The commendation was made aboard an Abuja–Kaduna train transporting members to NIPR’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kaduna. Members from various state chapters used the rail service as a safer and more convenient alternative.
Unyimadu noted that the train, filled largely with members, offered an opportunity for networking, reunion, and professional engagement.
“Some NIPR members described NRC staff service as impressive, noting that improved management had enhanced service delivery.
“They urged the Federal Government to sustain investment in rail infrastructure, highlighting its potential for economic growth.
“They noted that railway development is capital intensive but capable of yielding quick returns if properly funded and managed,” the NRC spokesperson quoted.
Traditional ruler Jacob Adetayo Haastrup praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing Opeifa and his management team, stating that the management had demonstrated the corporation’s capacity to drive national development in a short period.
Lagos NIPR Chairman Samuel Ayetutu said members chose rail transport to support ongoing reforms and avoid road insecurity, calling for nationwide expansion of rail networks to improve mobility and provide commuter alternatives.
The conference is scheduled to end on April 24 in Kaduna and will prepare participants for a global public relations conference in Nigeria later this year.
Dignitaries onboard included Tony Akiotu (President, Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria), Dr. Mohammed Abubakar (former NTA), Amb. Deborah Awatte (Vice Chairman, Cross River), and other state NIPR chairpersons.
