Buhari’s son declares for federal constituency seat

A former special assistant on digital communications to Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad has said that the late president’s son, Yusuf Buhari, has declared his intention to contest a House of Representatives seat in 2027.

In a letter dated April 3, purportedly signed by him, Yusuf informed stakeholders of his decision to contest the federal legislative seat representing the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter reads.

Confirming the development in a post on his 𝕏 page, Ahmad explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders.

“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.

Since his father left office, very little has been heard about Yusuf, making his declaration to contest the House of Representatives’ seat his most prominent political move to date.

Meanwhile, stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State are throwing their weight behind Yusuf Buhari, the son of former President of Nigeria Muhammad Buhari, as the preferred candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency.

Ashenews reports that the party announced its decision during a high-level meeting held at the Sandamu Local Government secretariat, which brought together elected officials and political appointees across the federal constituency.

The council chairman, Usman Na Lado, stated that the endorsement is a collective resolution reached by the stakeholders, who aim to strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.

He explained that Buhari was selected based on his perceived capacity and acceptance among party stakeholders.

Na Lado stated that, beyond the House of Representatives seat, the meeting also reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dikko Umar Radda as the party’s standard-bearers for the presidency and governorship seats, respectively, in the 2027 general elections.

He further revealed that the stakeholders also backed the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasiru Yahaya Daura, for the Daura Senatorial seat, adding that the endorsements signal early preparations for the 2027 general elections. He urged party loyalists to intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts.

However, reliable sources within the party told Daily Trust that the endorsement of Yusuf Buhari is a clear directive from the governor.

According to the source, Yusuf Buhari is the state governor’s anointed candidate.
