Saturday, February 28, 2026, will remain a landmark date in Aiyede Kingdom and across parts of Ondo and Ekiti states — an “Ojo Manigbagbe,” a day not easily forgotten. On that day, businessman and political figure Engr. Michael Abayomi Adeyanju was formally installed as the Otunba Mulero of Aiyede Kingdom in Ekiti State.

The ceremony was presided over by the Attah of Aiyede Kingdom, , who led the traditional rites that elevated Adeyanju into the ranks of distinguished Yoruba title holders. As custodian of the kingdom’s heritage, the monarch conducted the installation with solemnity and cultural depth, reinforcing the enduring relevance of traditional institutions.

A ceremony marked by grandeur

Observers described the occasion as one of the most memorable gatherings in the history of the 145-community Aiyede Kingdom. The atmosphere pulsed with rhythmic drumming, chants, and traditional dances that reflected communal pride and celebration.

Dignitaries, political figures, business associates, and community leaders attended in large numbers — a testament to Adeyanju’s growing influence across sectors.

The event also coincided with the commissioning of the newly completed Attah’s Palace, an architectural symbol of unity and renewal for the kingdom. The project reportedly enjoyed support from prominent national figures, including , and was brought to completion during the administration of . The convergence of these milestones lent additional historical weight to the day.

The rite of honour

Central to the installation was the symbolic mounting of Ewe Akoko — sacred leaves that signify authority and honour in Yoruba tradition. The ritual marked Adeyanju’s formal admission into the revered circle of Otunbas, a title associated with leadership, wisdom, and service to the community.

Dressed in regal attire and accompanied by his wife, Adeyanju received the honour with visible humility. Admirers describe this trait as consistent with his public persona despite his achievements in business and politics. With ventures spanning Abuja and Port Harcourt, he also serves as Director General of the Imole Progressive Network (IPN), deepening his engagement in public affairs.

Growing political conversations

Beyond its cultural importance, the conferment has sparked conversations within Ondo North Senatorial District. Adeyanju is widely regarded as a potential contender in the 2027 senatorial race and has continued to receive congratulatory messages from supporters and stakeholders.

Some observers see the honour as recognition of his contributions to community development, while others interpret it as strengthening his visibility ahead of future political decisions. Supporters argue that his blend of entrepreneurial experience, political involvement, and traditional endorsement positions him as a notable figure in the district’s evolving political landscape.

More than politics

For the people of Aiyede Kingdom, however, the significance of the day went beyond political speculation. It was a celebration of heritage, identity, and communal solidarity. By conferring the Otunba Mulero title on Engr. Michael Adeyanju, the kingdom reaffirmed the vitality of Yoruba tradition in contemporary society.

February 28, 2026, now stands as a defining chapter in Aiyede’s story — a moment when cultural legacy and modern accomplishment met under the honour of an Otunba.
