Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has released the sum of N100million to the National Orthopedic Hospital Azare Hawul (NOHA), earlier approved to address some of its teething problems.

Zulum announced the immediate release of the fund during his ongoing five-day tour to Bayo, Shani, Kwaya Kusar, Hawul and Biu Local Government Areas of the state, scheduled to end on Friday.

He announced motivational support of N500,000 to each of the 29 medical doctors deployed from the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Azare, Hamul.

Zulum also announced N200,000 and N100,000 respectively to each of the 16 nurses and non-clinical staff deployed from the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital to the Orthopedic hospital Azare, Hawul.

Numerous patients currently receiving treatment at the orthopedic care were also supported with the sum of N30,000 each by the governor.

Zulum further expressed his administration’s determination to continue to support the hospital.

He noted that the hospital had just started with zero allocation from the Federal Government hence the need for its stabilisation.

Earlier, Dr Mohamed Ramat, the NOHA’s Medical Director, who conducted the governor round at the hospital, said it was open to all patients and not limited to orthopaedic cases for the time being.

“We even had two gynaecological surgeries including a very bad tear that was repaired.

“So, we are fortunate enough to have a plastic surgeon who came visiting. We had a very good repair for the two of them back-to-back,” he told the governor.

He said that the hospital was generally doing well in terms of service delivery, with a standing policy of providing drugs at affordable prices to patients.

Ramat thanked the governor for his kind gesture and generosity, adding that the hospital management was grateful and would not disappoint him.

Ashenews gathered through NAN that the governor initiated the idea of establishing orthopedic care in Azare, Hawul, to serve the entire North-eastern region in May 2025.

Zulum thereafter signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government to cede the state’s General Hospital, Azare, to the Orthopedic hospital.

He further supported its takeover with the sum of N465 million for the rehabilitation of the hospital and staff quarters.
