House of Reps releases 4 tax acts amid allegations of altered versions

The House of Representatives has released the Certified True Copies (CTCs) of four tax reform Acts recently signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following public concerns over the circulation of unauthorised and allegedly altered versions.

The release was directed by the Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, in collaboration with Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, after discrepancies were identified in versions of the laws already in circulation.

ASHENEWS gathered that the issue was first raised on the floor of the House by a member who drew attention to inconsistencies in the tax laws, prompting an internal verification exercise and the immediate publication of the certified documents.

The Speaker said the decision was aimed at restoring public confidence, ensuring legislative clarity, and safeguarding the integrity of the National Assembly’s records.

The Acts released are:

Nigeria Tax Act, 2025

Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025

National Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025

Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act, 2025

According to the House, the legislations form the core of Nigeria’s tax reform framework and are designed to modernise revenue administration, improve compliance, eliminate duplication, and strengthen fiscal coordination across the federation.

Speaker Abbas reaffirmed that the National Assembly operates as an institution of records, stressing that only laws duly passed, assented to, and certified by the legislature constitute valid legal instruments.

“The integrity of every Act is preserved through clear constitutional and parliamentary procedures,” he said, adding that there is no ambiguity regarding what constitutes the authentic version of any law.

The House advised members of the public, institutions, and stakeholders to disregard any versions of the tax Acts that are not certified by the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Clerk to the National Assembly has concluded arrangements with the Federal Government Printing Press to ensure uniformity and accuracy of the Acts. Hard copies have also been circulated to lawmakers and made available to the public.

The House further disclosed that the Ad-Hoc Committee chaired by Muktar Aliyu Betara is continuing its investigation into how unauthorised versions of the laws were circulated and will recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.

The House of Representatives reiterated its commitment to transparency, constitutionalism, and the rule of law.
