The National Association of Media and Publishers (ANME) of Morocco has called for the strengthening of a pan-African network of journalists to enable Africans tell their own stories and project the continent more positively to the global audience.

The Vice President of the association, Mohammed Daki, made the call during an interview with journalists in Casablanca, Morocco.

Daki said the engagement with journalists from across Africa aimed to deepen professional collaboration and strengthen existing partnerships between Moroccan media practitioners and their counterparts on the continent.

According to him, the initiative seeks to promote shared learning, peer exchange, and stronger editorial cooperation among African journalists, while also encouraging an Africa-driven narrative on development and opportunities across the continent.

He noted that the visit also provided participants with the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into Morocco’s infrastructure development and investment landscape.

“There is a need for African journalists to build a strong network capable of telling Africa’s stories to the world from an African perspective,” Daki said.

He observed that while media focus in previous years was largely outward-looking, there is now a growing need for African journalists to look inward and remain informed about developments across the continent.

“We believe in Africa. It is important to give the best to Africa as a continent endowed with abundant talent and opportunities,” he added.

Daki assured that the initiative would be sustained to strengthen long-term partnerships and foster continuous cooperation among African journalists.

ANME is a Moroccan umbrella body representing print, digital, and audiovisual media organisations. It was established to address economic challenges in the media sector, promote professionalism, and advocate for media reforms.

The association also works to strengthen governance, combat disinformation, and improve the financial sustainability and editorial independence of media organisations in Morocco. It is the largest association of media publishers in the country.
