The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it will continue to engage producers of table water and bread to ensure the delivery of safe and quality products in the South-East.
The agency’s Director, South-East Zone, Dr. Festus Ukadike, stated this on Tuesday in Enugu during the NAFDAC Stakeholders’ Sensitisation Forum for Producers of Table/Packaged Water and Bread Products.
Ukadike said NAFDAC had made significant progress in sanitising the water and bread production sectors in the past year, but noted that more work was still needed.
“The table water industry and baked goods are vital parts of our economy, and it is essential that we work together to ensure that the products being sold to consumers are safe and of high quality.
“Today, we will be discussing key issues affecting the table water and food industry, including regulatory compliance, process flow, sanitation and hygiene requirements, quality control, proper documentation and best practices,” he said.
The director commended the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) and various bakers’ associations for attending the sensitization programme and supporting efforts to improve product quality and public health.
“Your participation is vital to the success of this engagement, and I am confident that your contributions will help shape the future of the food industry in Nigeria,” he added.
Ukadike also warned that NAFDAC would not tolerate those who flout regulatory provisions or obstruct its officers in the discharge of their duties.
The Chairman of ATWAP, Enugu State Chapter, Mr. Tony Edike, applauded NAFDAC for organizing the sensitization, noting that members of the association had maintained standards and worked closely with the agency over the years to ensure Nigerians receive quality products.
“This forum will provide an avenue for our members to address peculiar challenges in Enugu State and receive feedback,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Supreme Bakers and Confectioners Association, Enugu, Mr. Sunday Akam, thanked NAFDAC for its continuous engagement with stakeholders.
“Our association will continue to work with NAFDAC and ensure our members comply with all regulatory requirements,” he said.
The sensitization featured presentations on “Overview of Premises, Personnel, Process Flow, Sanitation and Hygiene Requirements in a Water Facility or Bakery,” “Good Documentation Practice,” and “NAFDAC e-Registration Process (NAPAMS).”
