Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced that the State’s first flyover bridge will be completed by April next year — four months earlier than planned.
He made this known during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Esan North-East Local Government Area, ahead of the Edo Central Senatorial by-election set for August 16.
The Governor explained that the construction timeline has been reduced from 18 months to 14 months. He said this shows his government’s commitment to speeding up infrastructure projects.
The rally covered all eleven wards in the Local Government Area and saw many members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party defect to the APC, giving the ruling party more strength ahead of the election.
Speaking on road projects, Okpebholo said: “From Ekpoma to Ubiaja, we are making the road dual carriage. After the rains, you will see major work starting. We will also build other roads after the rains. That’s why you voted for your son. Ekpoma Road used to be very bad, but I made sure the contract was awarded while I was still in the Senate. Now, great work is going on there.”
He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting Edo State’s development plans, saying the President’s understanding of the people’s needs has helped speed up key projects.
On water supply, the Governor said the Ugboha Water Scheme has been revived, bringing water back to Uromi and nearby communities.
Okpebholo urged the people to vote for the APC candidate, Hon. Joseph Ikpea, in the by-election to ensure continuous development in Edo Central.
Meanwhile, the APC has concluded its campaign for the August 16 by-election for Ovia Federal Constituency with rallies in Utoka and Iguoshodin wards, Ovia North-East, on Friday, expressing confidence in victory.
At the rally, Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, said the party has informed residents in all 13 wards of its plans and is known for keeping its promises.
Idahosa said the APC candidate, Ms. Omosede Igbinedion, is experienced, having served in the House of Representatives before, and is capable of bringing development to the constituency.
“Come August 16, with the people’s support, she will win. In Iguoshodin Ward, we aim for no less than 98 percent of the votes. We will visit all 23 wards and campaign down to the unit level. We want a competent, reliable person who understands how the National Assembly works, and that person is Gabriella Omosede Igbinedion,” he said.
On her part, Omosede Igbinedion said her support base is growing, noting the recent defection of former Deputy Governor Marvelous Omobayo.
She revealed, “Omobayo visited my home last night, asking for my campaign cap. He said he would wear it throughout this period.”
Similarly, Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South in the National Assembly, said it is important for the APC to win both by-elections — in Ovia Federal Constituency and Edo Central Senatorial District — on August 16.
