Bauchi State Police Command, have confirmed the kidnap, by gunmen of 25-year old Zulkifiru Mohammed and his friend, Iliyasu Suleiman.
The spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Wakili confirmed the incident to ASHENEWS in a telephone Sunday evening
According to him, the two were kidnapped after a foiled attempt to kidnap the Auditor General of Bauchi state, Alhaji Abdu Aliyu.
He explained that the incident occurred Saturday evening when the Auditor General was on his way to his Kardam village in Tafawa Balewa local government area.
“Although Abdu Usman Aliyu resides in Bauchi, he sometimes goes to the village every weekend to see his family and friends,” Wakili told ASHENEWS, adding that “the incident was reported by one Haruna, a resident of Kardam.
“Immediately the incident was reported, Police personnel at the Tafawa Balewa Division went to the scene but the assailants had already left with the two victims one of who is the biological son of the injured Auditor General.”
He added that the Auditor General was on his way to his village with five others when the gunmen who were said to be trailing him, opened fire and wounding him in the process.
“Usman resisted being abducted and the kidnappers shot him at close range. The other occupants in the vehicle ran for safety and thinking that the Auditor General was dead, the attackers abandoned him and ran into the bush leaving him in a pool of blood.
“Other users road users came to his aide and rushed him to General Hospital Tafawa Balewa before he was transferred to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) where he is on admission at the Trauma Center,” the spokesperson said.
Wakili said that the Police is on the trail of the kidnappers and urged members of the public who have useful information about the activities of criminals in their areas, to volunteer such information.
A daughter of Aliyu who was in the car when they were attacked, confirmed the incident to ASHENEWS but promised to give details when she is in good state of mind.
She however said that the kidnappers have made contact with the family and demanded N30 million as ransom.
Negotiation was on going as at the time of filing this report, Monday morning.
