The AbdulSamad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has donated a new administrative building worth ₦250 million to Al-Qalam University’s College of Allied Health Sciences in Katsina. The donation is part of ASR Africa’s Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGs).
The scheme aims to close infrastructure gaps and promote academic excellence in African universities and colleges. So far, 30 institutions have received grants ranging from ₦250 million to ₦2 billion.
Speaking during the handover event, Professor Nasiru Musa Yauri, Vice Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, thanked ASR Africa for choosing the university for this important donation.
He said the project and its location were carefully planned because the university is preparing to expand its academic programmes by starting the College of Allied Health Sciences.
Yauri also mentioned that to make good use of the new building, the university has signed partnership agreements with major hospitals in Katsina State. These hospitals will help train the university’s health science students during their clinical practice.
The Managing Director of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, while giving his speech, praised Al-Qalam University’s management for supporting the construction work throughout the project.
He said the strong collaboration between ASR Africa and the university’s project management team helped to complete the building on time.
Dr. Udoh expressed his happiness with how quickly the project was finished and urged the university to ensure the building is well-maintained and used properly.
The Governor of Katsina State, Malam Umaru Dikko Radda, was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari. He thanked the Chairman of ASR Africa, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, for his generosity and support for education in the state.
