The Rotary Clubs of Eko Heights, Ikeja Legend, and Mushin Metropolitan are working together to reduce the number of mothers who die during childbirth in Nigeria.
At an event to launch a new health project at the General Hospital in Ebute Meta, Lagos, Ogechukwu Ogbonanya, President of the Rotary Club of Eko Heights, said the goal is to improve the health of mothers and children in the community.
She said the project will help women and children by donating 100 mother care bags, 100 sanitary pads, 100 diapers, 100 baby wipes, and more items.
Ogbonanya added that this effort should help lower the number of deaths among mothers and children, improve their health, and have a long-term positive effect.
Enitan Ibironke, the first president of the Rotary Club of Ikeja Legend, said her club is committed to helping the community’s health through this project.
She said the project will offer free health services for pregnant women, such as check-ups before and after birth, short health talks, free medicine, mosquito nets, and general health checks for families.
“This is a great chance for our clubs to work together to help more families, build goodwill, and show Rotary’s values,” she said.
Iphie Nwatu, President of the Rotary Club of Mushin Metropolitan, said her club is focused on caring for the community, especially improving children’s health and preventing diseases.
She added that free medical tests, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, will be done at the General Hospital in Ebute Meta.
