The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert concerning the recall of certain multivitamin and iron supplements in the United States.
In a statement shared via its official Twitter handle, NAFDAC identified the affected brand as CINCINNATI (WKRC).
The agency noted that the recalled supplements were sold across the U.S., including by major retailers such as Walmart and Amazon.
According to NAFDAC, the recall was triggered by a “risk of serious injury or death” due to improper packaging that poses a poisoning hazard, especially to young children.
Citing a report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, NAFDAC disclosed that approximately 60,000 units of the supplements are affected.
The recalled products include:
- Daily Prenatal Multi
- Ultamins Women’s Multivitamin
- Ultamins Women’s 50+ Multivitamin
It was discovered that these supplements lacked child-resistant packaging, making them unsafe if accessed by children.
“Without child-resistant packaging, children are at risk of fatal poisoning if they ingest these supplements.
Even a few tablets of iron supplements can cause vomiting, stomach pain, low blood pressure, or liver damage in young children,” NAFDAC warned.
The agency added that in severe cases, symptoms could escalate rapidly and become life-threatening.
As a precaution, NAFDAC has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to monitor and remove CINCINNATI (WKRC) products from circulation across Nigeria.
Distributors, retailers, healthcare providers, and caregivers have been urged to remain vigilant and ensure that the recalled products are not used or sold.
