The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a three-day spell of rainfall and thunderstorms across Nigeria, beginning Monday and lasting through Wednesday.

The forecast was detailed in NiMet’s latest weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja.

According to the agency, Monday will begin with patches of clouds and chances of morning thunderstorms in parts of Taraba and Adamawa.

As the day progresses, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected in areas including Zamfara, Adamawa, Kebbi, Taraba, and Kaduna.

In the North-Central region, NiMet predicts sunny skies with scattered clouds in the morning. By afternoon or evening, isolated thunderstorms and rain are expected in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Niger, Benue, Plateau, and Nasarawa.

Southern Nigeria will experience a cloudy atmosphere on Monday morning, with rain likely over the coastal areas of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa.

Later in the day, rain showers are anticipated across much of the region, including Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Imo, Abia, Edo, Ebonyi, Enugu, and the coastal states.

By Tuesday, NiMet expects sunny skies with light cloud cover across the North in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in Bauchi, Taraba, Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, and Adamawa.

The North-Central region will see partly cloudy conditions early in the day, with thunderstorms and rain expected later in the FCT, Kwara, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Niger.

In the South, morning showers are likely over parts of Cross River, Bayelsa, Delta, and Akwa Ibom. By the afternoon and evening, isolated rainfall is expected across Ekiti, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Oyo, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Lagos.

For Wednesday, NiMet forecasts morning thunderstorms and rain across Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, and Gombe. Later in the day, more thunderstorms are likely over Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba, Adamawa, and Zamfara.

The North-Central region will have cloudy skies in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and rain across the region in the afternoon.

Similarly, cloudy conditions are expected in the South during the morning hours, with isolated rain showers likely later in the day across the entire region.

NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions, warning that strong winds may precede thunderstorms and urging residents to secure loose objects to prevent damage.

The agency also advised against driving during heavy rains and recommended unplugging electrical appliances during storms. People are urged to stay away from tall trees due to the risk of falling branches.

Airline operators were reminded to obtain airport-specific weather information from NiMet for safe flight planning. The agency encouraged all Nigerians to stay updated through its website, www.nimet.gov.ng.
