ASHENEWS reports that the Niger state governor, Umaru Bago has said that over 1,000 people are still missing following the devastating flooding in Mokwa, Mokwa local government area of Niger State.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Yakubu Garba stated this when he received on condolence visit, the former Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi at the Government House on Monday in Minna.
The governor who described the flood incident in Mokwa as a national catastrophe” assured the people tthe state government’s commitment to addressing the recurring cases of floods.
He further reiterated the state governments appeal for international and national support to ameliorate the sufferings of the victims.
On his part, Obi while commiserating with the people of Niger State over the incident announced the donation of N20 million to the victims of the flood.
Also speaking, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, who was represented by the Director General, Niger State Babanna Border Development Agency, Muhammad Danladi, pledged the donation of food items comprising rice, maize and millets to all waisted the sufferings of the victims.
