Prof. Adamu Ahmed has officially assumed office as the 13th substantive Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, taking over from Prof. Kabiru Bala in a ceremony held on Wednesday at the University Senate Chambers.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Ahmed pledged to lead with diligence, humility, and fairness to enhance the academic excellence for which ABU is known. He expressed his commitment to promoting impactful research, innovation, and collaboration among staff and students.
“I do not have all the answers, but with the support of our globally respected academics, strong student body, and dedicated administrators, we will make a difference,” he stated.
Prof. Ahmed thanked the ABU Governing Council for the confidence reposed in him and appreciated the outgoing Vice-Chancellor for his leadership. He also acknowledged the encouragement he received from the university basketball community, of which he is a part.
In his remarks, outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala congratulated his successor and expressed optimism about the future of the university under his leadership. He thanked the university community for their support and constructive feedback throughout his tenure.
The Acting Registrar, Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia, commended Prof. Bala for his effective leadership and mentorship, and welcomed the new Vice-Chancellor, urging continuity in the pursuit of excellence.
Highlights of the ceremony included a goodwill message by former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Danladi Amodu Ameh, and a photo session with dignitaries.
The event was attended by Principal Officers, Management Staff, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, members of the Zazzau Emirate Council, notable alumni, and members of the press.
