Rivers: Ijaw Nation will stand against the state of emergency – Group

The current situation in Rivers State is a matter of concern for the Ijaw nation. As clans and kingdoms of the Ijaw nation within Delta State and Edo State, we, the people of Egbama, Gbaramatu, Isaba, and Ogbe-Ijoh, are deeply aware of actions that may undermine the voice and representation of the Ijaw people in Nigeria.

Eight years ago, an Ijaw man was removed from office, and since then, the Ijaw people have faced marginalization. Today, we, the Gbaramatu Ijaw, Egbama Ijaw, Isaba Ijaw, and Ogbe-Ijoh clans, stand in solidarity with our Ijaw brothers in Rivers State, advocating for fairness, justice, and inclusive governance.

This is a call for unity among Ijaw youths and all Ijaw people. We believe it is essential to engage in peaceful and constructive dialogue to address the concerns of the Ijaw nation. Our resources have contributed significantly to the development of Nigeria, yet our communities continue to face challenges. It is our right to call for equitable representation and fair treatment.

We are particularly concerned about the lack of adequate representation of the Ijaw people in key positions, including the petroleum sector. We believe qualified Ijaw leaders should be given opportunities to contribute to the management of our natural resources. Such inclusion will not only promote equity but also ensure a sense of belonging and national unity.

We, therefore, urge the federal government to address these concerns with urgency. Our call is for dialogue, understanding, and policies that promote inclusive governance. The Ijaw nation is committed to peaceful advocacy for our rights and interests, believing that a fair Nigeria benefits all its citizens.

We stand united in our resolve to work towards a future where every Nigerian, regardless of ethnicity or region, enjoys equal opportunities.

Asawana, wana.
