Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has directed the Ministry of Agriculture to procure and deploy chemicals to combat a mysterious disease affecting rice farmlands in the Shanga Local Government Area.
The governor issued the directive on Thursday during his ‘Thank You Visit’ to the area.
“We have received reports of a strange disease or pests attacking rice farms. Consequently, I instructed the Commissioner for Agriculture to assess the situation,” Idris said.
“I have since approved the immediate procurement of chemicals to fumigate the affected farms.”
He assured farmers of swift government intervention to mitigate the impact, particularly in Duggu, Gebbe, and Kukuni which are major rice-producing hubs in the state.
Recognizing Shanga’s agricultural importance, the governor also pledged to consider constructing additional roads in the area.
