The Rural Development and Reformation Foundation (RUDERF), a non-governmental organisation, says it is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance self-paced learning.
The Executive Director and Founder of RUDERF, Sandra Ogholi-Alero stated this in an interview on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to her, AI-powered platform bridges digital divide for educators in Nigeria’s south-south.
“In a groundbreaking initiative to bridge the digital divide among educators in Nigeria’s South-South region, RUDERF is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionise self-paced learning.
“Building upon insights from its successful Education Without Borders (EWB)project, RUDERF has developed Edity, a generative AI-powered platform designed to empower teachers with advanced digital skills, especially in under-resourced areas.
“Edity delivers personalised teacher development through comprehensive skill assessments, tailored learning resources, and progress tracking.
“By analysing data from the EWB initiative, Edity customises content to address individual learning needs, ensuring that educators can effectively integrate digital tools into their classrooms.
“This approach not only enhances teaching methodologies but also transforms traditional classrooms into dynamic digital learning hubs,” she said.
According to her, a core component of Edity’s 360-degree strategy is its support for education stakeholders through real-time data collection and analysis.
She added that the platform’s Open Research Data Bank ensures accessible, open-source data aimed at improving educational outcomes, particularly for underserved populations.
“By providing these resources, RUDERF aims to dismantle barriers to digital literacy, ensuring that all educators, regardless of their geographical or economic circumstances, have the opportunity to advance their skills.
“The impact of this initiative is profound. By equipping teachers with the necessary digital competencies, Edity is poised to break cycles of digital illiteracy that have long hindered educational progress in marginalised communities.
“This empowerment fosters equity across diverse populations, creating a level playing field where every educator and student can thrive in an increasingly digital world,” she added.
She emphasised that RUDERF’s commitment to grassroots development is evident in its mission to catalyse change by empowering women and communities to lead transformative change from the ground up.
She explained that through Edity, this mission is furthered by providing educators with the tools they need to succeed, thereby uplifting entire communities.
“As Edity continues to evolve, RUDERF is preparing to launch its open-source data collection and reporting tools through the platform.
“By harnessing the power of AI and focusing on inclusivity, RUDERF is not only addressing current educational disparities but also paving the way for a future where digital literacy is universal.
“Every educator is equipped to inspire the next generation of innovators,” she said.
