The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted hazy and cloudy weather conditions across the country from Wednesday to Friday.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet forecasted slight dust haze over the northern and North-Central regions throughout Wednesday. The southern region is expected to experience a hazy atmosphere with patches of clouds, along with chances of early morning mist or fog over coastal cities.
Localized thunderstorms are likely over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, and Delta States later in the day.
For Thursday, slight dust haze is expected to persist in the northern and North-Central regions. The southern region will experience hazy conditions with patches of clouds, early morning mist or fog in coastal areas, and hazy conditions throughout the afternoon and evening.
By Friday, slight dust haze is anticipated across most of the northern and North-Central regions, except in Kano, Katsina, Yobe, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto States, where moderate dust haze is expected. The southern region will continue to experience hazy conditions with patches of clouds.
NiMet advised the public to take precautions, particularly those with respiratory conditions such as asthma, as dust particles remain suspended in the air. It also warned of strong winds preceding thunderstorms in affected areas and urged residents to adhere to safety advisories.
Airline operators were encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for flight planning, while the public was advised to stay updated through NiMet’s official website (www.nimet.gov.ng).
