The Small Scale Women Farmers of Nigeria (SWOFON) in partnership with the UN Women, has trained 250 women in biogas technologies and financial skills in Bauchi State.
The National Treasurer, SWOFON, Marka Abbas stated this at the inauguration of the training exercise, on Friday in Bauchi.
She said the organisations had empowered the beneficiaries with the skills to harness biogas energy and improve financial management.
Abbas said that 125 selected women each from Bauchi and Dass LGAs, benefited from the empowerment programme.
She said the programme was being implemented with the support of the UN Women, to promote Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) and contribute to a clean environment.
The Senior Research Officer of, the Biotechnology Research and Development Agency, Mr Abubakar Dahuwa said biogas provided a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels and reduced reliance on non-renewable energies.
“Biogas technology can provide energy for cooking, lightning and other household needs. Its production can generate income for women farmers through the sale of excess energy,” he said.
According to Dahuwa, biogas technology reduces greenhouse gas emissions and enhances environmental sustainability.
Also, the Credit Officer, Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), Madina Salman described financial literacy as a crucial aspect for economic empowerment,
She said that financial literacy could improve financial wellbeing, reduce financial stress, promote economic growth and enable women to make informed decisions about their financial resources.
