The pioneer Director-General of the National Biosafety Management Agency(NBMA), Dr Rufus Ebegba has called for the adoption of safe biotechnology methods to tackle food insecurity in the country.
Ebegba made this advocacy in an interview on Monday in Abuja.
He said there need was for the adoption of safe biotechnology methods given the current flood experienced in some parts of the country.
The biosafety expert said that the advocacy featured prominently at the recently concluded biosafety consultative meeting in Lusaka, Zambia, from Sept. 19 to Sept. 20.
“The essence of the meeting is to review the challenges affecting biosafety in Africa, particularly Zambia,’’ he said.
He expressed optimism that the review would help Nigeria address the challenges of food security.
