The Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA) has conducted a six-day drains clearance and waste evacuation exercises in Guri Local Government Area of the state.
The Managing Director of the agency, Mr Adamu Sabo, made this known in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital on Monday.
Sabo said that the exercise was aimed at controlling flood and enhancing sanitation as well as improving hygiene in the area.
He explained that the gesture was also expected to rid the area of mosquitoes.
The managing director advised residents of the area and the public to always keep their surroundings clean and imbibe good sanitation habit.
According to him, the agency has put in place proactive measures to promote effective waste management and sanitation in urban and rural communities, through drain clearance, waste collection and disposal in Jigawa.
Sabo, however, urged residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of waste in residential areas and waterways as it poses health risks.
He, therefore, urged them to imbibe good waste management by dumping their wastes at designated areas for easy evacuation by the agency.
He also called for ownership of the drain and waste clearance and evacuation by residents through self-help method.
The managing director said that the agency would continue to ensure that residents live in a good and healthy environment.
