The Niger State Police Command has refuted online media reports claiming an explosion at the Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Station.
The spokesperson for the Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun said on Monday in Minna that the news of the alleged explosion was false.
He clarified that there was no instance of an explosion at the Zungeru Dam, contrary to reports circulating on some online platforms, and urged the public to disregard such claims.

“We wish to clarify that there has been no incident of any explosion at Zungeru Dam as reported by certain online media.
“We urge the public to disregard such reports,” he stated.

Some online media outlets published a story alleging an explosion at Zungeru Hydropower Dam in the early hours of Monday, July 1.
According to their reports, several workers purportedly sustained injuries of varying degrees and were receiving medical attention in Minna.

The Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Station is a 700 megawatts (940,000 hp) hydroelectric power plant currently under construction in Niger State, Nigeria.
Upon completion, the dam will become the second-largest hydroelectric power station in the country, following the 760 megawatts (1,020,000 hp) Kainji Hydroelectric Power Station.
The Dam, constructed by a Chinese consortium comprising China National Electric Engineering Company (CNEEC) and Sinohydro, was built to generate 2.64 billion kWh of electricity annually.
