The wife of the Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Zulaihat Radda, has commended the First Lady, Sen. Remi Tinubu for empowering about 100.000 Nigerians in the last two years.
The governor’s wife made the commendation during the disbursement of N50,000 each to 250 persons with disabilities in Katsina on Wednesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was part of activities to commemorate the International Day for Person With Disabilities (PWDs).
The event tagged ‘Economic Empowerment for PWDs’, is the first lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), under the Social Investment Programme (SIP).
Reading the first lady’s speech, Radda said that the empowerment programme for the PWDs aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
She said that it seeks to promote inclusive growth and shared prosperity by ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind, especially those whose needs are often overlooked.
“It’s worth noting that over the past two years, the RHI has supported more than 100,000 women, petty traders, small business owners, and PWDs, with financial grants to grow their businesses.
“Today, the RHI will provide N200,000 business recapitalisation grants to 250 persons with disabilities in each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“This is aimed to support small business owners to recapitalise their existing businesses and strengthen their means of livelihood,” she said.
Also, she said that each state of the federation, the FCT, the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association, will each receive N50 million to be distributed to the beneficiaries in their domain.
“In total, 9,500 persons with disabilities across Nigeria will benefit from this programme, amounting to about N1.9 billion,” she said.
NAN also reports that some of the beneficiaries commended the first lady’s gesture, promising to use the grant to improve their well-being.
