In a remarkable advancement, Kano’s former Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel FIPMA psc, has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police. A distinguished officer with a reputation for innovation and effectiveness, AIG Gumel is celebrated globally for his exceptional contributions to law enforcement and community engagement.

During his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Kano, Gumel pioneered numerous community policing initiatives that significantly reduced crime rates and enhanced public safety.

His visionary approach involved creating opportunities for criminals to repent and reintegrate into society, leading to the transformation of over 600 individuals who have now turned their lives around.

These reformed individuals are actively contributing to the community through various business ventures and craftsmanship, a testament to Gumel’s effective rehabilitation strategies.

In an unprecedented move, Gumel also facilitated the recruitment of 50 reformed individuals into the police constabulary. This initiative not only provided these individuals with a second chance but also strengthened the state’s security apparatus.

These constables, once on the wrong side of the law, are now invaluable assets in maintaining peace and order, utilizing their unique insights and networks to aid in crime prevention and response.

AIG Gumel’s leadership extended beyond crime reduction; he played a crucial role in maintaining peace during the 2023 governorship elections in Kano. Despite the tense political climate, his strategic interventions ensured a violence-free electoral process and a smooth resolution of post-election disputes.

His commitment to law and order, coupled with his ability to manage early warning systems and respond promptly to security threats, earned him widespread recognition and numerous awards from various community groups.
