The term “Hausa-Fulani” and its entry into popular vocabulary is traceable to a not-so-kind general political characterization of the people of northern Nigeria and, in particular, the Hausa and Fulani and Muslim ethnic groups, as made by the Lagos-Ibadan press (print and television).
