The Sokoto State Government has launched an e-ticketing system for its 126 mass transit vehicles currently serving inter-state, intra-city, and inter-local government routes.
The e-ticketing initiative was unveiled during a demonstration to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, showcasing how the system works and how passengers can easily obtain tickets without hassle.
Governor Aliyu explained that the e-ticketing initiative is part of his administration’s measures to enhance transparency and accountability in the mass transit unit and across the state.
“This system is excellent as it promotes a cashless operation and ensures that all transportation fares are deposited directly into the government’s coffers.
“With this development, we are also ensuring value for money spent on purchasing the 126 vehicles deployed for inter-state, intra-city, and inter-local government services.
“I am optimistic that this initiative will minimize cases of public fund mismanagement,” he stated.
Governor Aliyu also expressed confidence that the system would enable the government to effectively monitor its vehicles and ensure their roadworthiness.
He pledged his administration’s support for the initiative while urging the consulting firm to further improve the e-ticketing process.
The governor added that once fully operational, the program would create job opportunities and boost the state’s revenue.
Other speakers at the demonstration included the Special Adviser to the Governor on Mass Transit, Mode Yawa Shagari, and the representative of the consulting firm, Mr. Mahmud.
They described the e-ticketing system as a step in the right direction, beneficial to both passengers and the government.
This initiative comes ahead of the planned release of additional mass transit vehicles by the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration.
