MTN Nigeria has said that some customers in Adamawa, Borno, and Kano states will face a temporary disruption in service on Saturday, August 24, 2025.
The disruption is due to a planned network maintenance exercise. The company explained that it will switch traffic to a newly installed fiber cable along the AFCOT–Bawo Village route in Adamawa State.
According to MTN, the new cable is meant to permanently replace damaged fiber lines and improve network stability in the region.
The exercise will affect 101 sites across 15 local government areas (LGAs). These include Nasarawa LGA in Kano State; Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North in Adamawa State; as well as Askira/Uba and Shani LGAs in Borno State.
The service disruption will last for about two hours, between 6:00 am and 8:00 am. It will affect 2G, 3G, 4G, and enterprise services.
MTN noted that the work will be carried out in daylight hours for security reasons, as the fiber route is long and unprotected.
“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate our customers’ understanding as we work to improve service quality and reliability,” the company said in a statement.
The telecom giant also assured subscribers that once the work is done, network performance in the affected areas will be much stronger and more reliable.
