ASHENEWS reports that the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa has commissioned an innovation and incubation center to aid in military research and development of technology.
The hub is situated at the Defence Space Administration( DSA) complex, Abuja.
Speaking while commissioning the center on Wednesday ,the CDS said that the Nigerian armed forces was poised to take advantage of emerging military technologies to support its operations.
Musa noted that the facility will boost research in space science and technology to broaden understanding in earth observation, satellite communication and cyber operations.
He also announced plans to establish a joint cyber warfare Command which will re-invigorate the current state of the DSA.
According to him, the center will play a pivotal role in enabling the DSA to explore the advantages of space capabilities while also developing innovations that will boost counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations in the country.
On his part, the Chief of Defence Space Agency, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Ahmed Abdullahi Shinkafi said that the DSA was empowered by the DSA act to create robust space competence that is capable of providing requisite support to the AFN and other security Agencies.
He said that the centre will serve as an avenue to nurture ideas, increase creativity, while also fostering innovation in space, science and technology endeavours for Nigerias armed forces as well as associated agencies.
Shinkafi further urged the federal government to support the DSA with funding that would see to the training and re-training of personnel, research and development as well as technological collaboration both within and outside the country.
