The Enugu State Government has urged students to embrace innovation, technology, and creativity to become self-reliant and excel in their respective careers.
The Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Prince Lawrence Ezeh, gave this advice on Sunday during the 2026 Cultural and Scientific Display Day at Command Day Secondary School, Enugu.
The event was themed: “Celebrating Nigerian Heritage and Innovation”.
Ezeh noted that the state government had activated various platforms and programmes to ensure every student in the state remains attuned to the latest innovative and technological ideas and knowledge, enabling them to thrive in a highly competitive world.
He commended the management and staff of the school for advancing science and technology innovation and for inspiring students to see it as the best path forward.
“I am quite impressed with the innovative and scientific displays here today. From what I have seen, the innovations showcased so far have the potential to become start-ups.
“I have invited students of all levels—especially the innovators in this school—to attend the Enugu Tech Festival, holding from February 24 to 27, to showcase their ideas, meet international innovation and tech leaders, learn, and network,” he said.
Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo (represented by Col. John Oshikoya, Acting Commander, 105 Division Equipment Support), appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for his unwavering commitment to the development of Army schools nationwide.
Fadairo thanked the commissioner, Igwe Emmanuel Ugwu (Chairman, Enugu East Traditional Rulers’ Council), and other dignitaries who attended the event.
In his welcome address, the Commandant of Command Day Secondary School, Enugu, Lt.-Col. Nuhu Abdulsalam, said the Cultural and Scientific Fiesta provides a platform for deepening understanding, innovation, unity, and mutual respect through intercultural interaction.
Abdulsalam lauded the GOC and the Commander, Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, for approving and funding the 2026 Cultural and Scientific Display Day.
“Culture represents the total way of life of a people, encompassing their dressing, arts, language, music, religion, customs, morals, values, and even evolving scientific innovations.
“These are preserved and transmitted through the process of enculturation.
“It is in recognition of the importance of these life-shaping elements that the management of this school, in its wisdom and foresight, deliberately integrated cultural and scientific exhibitions into our core educational experience,” he said.
He noted that this is aimed at producing well-rounded and responsible individuals for society.
