A new high-speed railway, connecting the economic heavyweights of Hangzhou and Wenzhou in the Yangtze River Delta, began trial operations on Tuesday in China.
Spanning 260 kilometers, the railway boasts a designed speed of 350 km per hour and features nine stations along its route.
This railway offers a rapid transit solution threading through the economic hubs of Hangzhou, Yiwu, and Wenzhou, a region known for its economic vibrancy.
Wang Chang, the person in charge of the railway project with the railway subsidiary of the Zhejiang Development and Planning Institute, emphasised the railway’s significance as a national pilot project for mixed ownership reform, introducing social capital into railway construction.
The new inter-city railway integrates with the existing high-speed railway network in the delta region, enhancing connectivity and efficiency. This integration links rich tourism resources, including Hangzhou, often referred to as “Heaven on Earth” for its architectural beauty, as well as Xianhua Mountain and Nanxi River.
Wang highlighted that the line is of great importance for facilitating public travel and promoting higher-quality integrated development in the Yangtze River Delta. The railway is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity, economic growth, and tourism.
This development marks another milestone in China’s ambitious infrastructure projects aimed at bolstering economic integration and providing swift transportation solutions across China.
