ChatGPT, X, others down in Nigeria as Cloudflare suffers outage

Websites including X, ChatGPT, and Canva have experienced multiple errors, limiting user accessibility. These errors are caused by technical problems at Cloudflare. ChatGPT, which now has intermittent accessibility at the time of this publication, displays the error, “Please unblock challenges.cloudflare.com to continue.”

Cloudflare is a company that provides web security and a Content Delivery Network (CDN) to protect websites from hacks and speed them up. It operates a massive global network that sits between a user and a website’s server, delivering content quickly while filtering out malicious traffic to improve performance and security.

According to a statement by the company, “Cloudflare is aware of and investigating an issue which potentially impacts multiple customers. Further detail will be provided as more information becomes available.”

Interestingly, Down Detector, which tracks websites that are down or unavailable, is currently not functional due to Cloudflare’s outage.

Similarly, an AWS technical problem affected multiple businesses in October. From Snapchat to ChatGPT and Roblox, many apps and services used by millions of people across the world were unavailable.

The issue, which began in the AWS US-East-1 region in Virginia, was caused by a DNS resolution failure affecting the DynamoDB API endpoint, according to the company. This failure had a ripple effect on services hosted in that region, leading to widespread disruptions.

Even Amazon’s own services, including Alexa and Prime Video, were not spared. Users around the world reported login issues, unresponsive apps, and missing features. Downdetector, a website that tracks real-time service outages, showed thousands of outage reports within the first hour.

Thankfully, Cloudflare’s problems are not as catastrophic as some of the affected platforms still have limited availability.

According to system updates provided by Cloudflare, “Some services may be intermittently impacted. We are focused on restoring service. We will update as we are able to remediate.”It also said that while some services have begun to recover, some customers will experience higher-than-normal error rates. Its latest update is that it is still investigating the issue.
