A group of online media organisations, has launched the Digital Publishers of Nigeria, DPN.
Aimed at practicing patriotic and solutions-based journalism in Africa’s most populous country, DPN also at its maiden meeting held virtually on Sunday, elected publisher of Royal News, Alhaji Abdulazeez Arowona as its pioneer President for two years.
An indigene of Ilorin, Kwra state, Arowona was elected based on his pedigree, exposure and overall experience in all spheres of life.
Three other members of the association, publisher of The DEFENDER newspaper, Alhaji Bashir Adefaka; publisher of AshNews, Abdallah el-Kurebe; and CEO/E-in-C of City Hill News, Mallam Marufh Bello, were elected as Secretary General, Financial Secretary and Publicity Secretary, respectively.
In his acceptance speech, Arowona, an experienced journalist, public affairs analyst and consultant, thanked all members for the confidence reposed in him and sought the cooperation and support of all in the task ahead.
“Today marks another milestone in our lives as media practitioners, public relations consultants, distinguished Nigerians and publishers of reputable digital newspapers.
“I am glad that we have gone this far to put ourselves under the umbrella of Digital Publishers of Nigeria (DPN) through the painstaking efforts of Prince Bashir Adefaka, a respected brother and colleague, and others.
“We all have significant roles to play in ensuring that DPN performs its expected roles in the Nigerian Media space.”
“I appreciate the honour and the privilege of becoming the pioneer servant of this association and I hereby dedicate this honour to His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, the Emir of Ilorin,” he said.
Arowona otherwise known as Sardauna, holds B.Sc in Political Science, M.Sc in Peace & Conflict Studies, Post-Graduate Diploma in Journalism, Masters Class Certificate in Business Management and Leadership of London Graduate School.
The association, however, resolved at the meeting to change the leadership of the association every two years.
