The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) chapter, have joined the nationwide strike over the delay in implementing the 2009 agreement.
The unions staged a peaceful protest at Freedom Park in Ile-Ife on Monday, displaying placards with various inscriptions.
Mr Ademola Junaid, SSANU Chairman, said the strike was necessitated by the Federal Government’s failure to conclude and implement the 2009 agreement.

Junaid commended President Bola Tinubu for his excellent performance in the education sector, particularly through intervention loans given to workers to improve their welfare.
However, he bemoaned the suffering of union members, accusing the Federal Government of not being sincere about addressing the plight of SSANU and NASU members. He urged the government to urgently meet the unions’ demands.
Similarly, Mr Dayo Oyediwura, NASU Chairman, alleged that the Federal Government had attended to the demands of only one union in the university system. He urged the government to be fair and just in its dealings with all unions.
