Citizens Compass, a popular human-interest online news platform, has clinched the Online of the Year Award at the 19th Nigeria Media Nite Out Awards (NMNA) 2025. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Airport Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
The platform emerged winner after beating three other nominees in the fiercely contested category. Citizens Compass, which began operations in April 2021, was nominated for its consistency and its growing impact in highlighting human-interest and community stories.
Ahead of the ceremony, NMNA Convener and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Shola Olugbemiro, had announced on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, that voting for all nominated categories had commenced. Citizens Compass actively participated by mobilising its audience to vote.
The platform is known for its strong focus on everyday people and community issues. Its founder and publisher, Bose Adelaja, is a seasoned journalist who started her career as a freelancer with the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC). A graduate of Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic—now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic—she went on to become the pioneer reporter on Vanguard’s Metro Desk, carving a niche for herself in human-interest reporting.
Reacting to the award, Adelaja said the recognition reflects the hard work and dedication that drive the platform’s journalism. She expressed gratitude to the organisers of the NMNA, acknowledging their role in recognising impactful media efforts.
She extended heartfelt appreciation to her family, loyal readers, colleagues, friends, and supporters whose votes secured the win. “This award is dedicated to our esteemed readers both in Nigeria and overseas,” she said. “Above all, we thank Almighty God for making this possible.”
The Nigeria Media Nite Out Awards, led by Mr. Olugbemiro, is an annual event that celebrates excellence and significant contributions to the media industry and national development.
