President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday swore in Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.
Disu arrived at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, at about 2:45 p.m., accompanied by two senior police officers and some family members, to complete the formalities of his assumption of office. Egbetokun was also sighted entering the Villa to join other dignitaries at the ceremony.
Disu is expected to be formally decorated as the Acting IGP after Egbetokun tendered his resignation on Tuesday.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had earlier announced that Tinubu accepted Egbetokun’s resignation following the submission of his letter, in which he cited “pressing family considerations.”
While accepting the resignation, the President expressed profound appreciation for Egbetokun’s decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation. He commended his dedication, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to strengthening the country’s internal security architecture during his tenure.
Onanuga stated that, “In view of the current security challenges confronting the nation, and acting in accordance with extant laws and legal guidance, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to serve as Acting Inspector-General of Police with immediate effect.”
It was gathered that members of the Police Council were also present at the Villa to witness Disu’s inauguration as the new Acting IGP.
