Wamakko hails Aliyu’s performance, backs APC’s 2027 governorship ticket

The leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu, for what he described as people-oriented projects and impactful governance across the state, following the governor’s emergence as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Wamakko made the remarks during the APC governorship affirmation exercise held on Thursday, at the party secretariat in Sokoto, where Aliyu was formally endorsed by party delegates and stakeholders as the APC flagbearer for the next gubernatorial election.

The endorsement comes shortly after the APC affirmed Governor Aliyu as its consensus candidate, a move party leaders said reflected confidence in his administration’s performance and growing acceptance among members across the state.

Addressing party faithful during the event, Wamakko praised the governor’s loyalty, dedication and commitment to delivering democratic dividends, noting that his administration had sustained developmental projects and strengthened public confidence in the APC-led government.

According to the former governor, Aliyu’s leadership has helped consolidate the party’s grassroots support while advancing key development initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

Wamakko also commended APC stakeholders, delegates and supporters for maintaining unity and discipline throughout the process, describing the consensus arrangement that produced Aliyu as a demonstration of political maturity and internal cohesion within the party.

He said the peaceful conduct of the affirmation exercise underscored the APC’s readiness for the 2027 elections and reflected the confidence members have in the governor’s leadership.

The APC leader further reflected on the defections that affected the party during the 2023 political cycle, arguing that the development ultimately strengthened the APC in Sokoto.

According to him, those departures created an opportunity for the party to reorganise, consolidate its structure and deepen its support base across the state.

Wamakko expressed optimism that the APC would secure victory in the 2027 general elections at all levels, urging members to remain steadfast, united and committed to the ideals and programmes of the party.

Governor Aliyu’s affirmation as the APC governorship candidate is expected to set the tone for the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 polls, with party leaders projecting continuity of the administration’s development agenda in Sokoto State.
