President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former presidential candidate Peter Obi have congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election for a second term.

Adeleke won Saturday’s governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party, securing 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner early Sunday at the collation centre in Osogbo. He won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.

Speaking to journalists after his victory was declared, Adeleke disclosed that President Tinubu had personally called to congratulate him.

“Yes, this is no victor, no vanquished. I want them to come over. I’m expecting Oyebamiji, even as a civilised person, to call me and congratulate me,” Adeleke said.

He also thanked Tinubu for the gesture, saying the President had contributed to sustaining democracy.

Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the ADC, also congratulated Adeleke, describing the result as a reflection of the choice of Osun voters.

“I congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as Governor of Osun State,” Atiku said in a post on X.

He commended the people of Osun for their peaceful participation in the election and wished Adeleke continued office success.

Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, described Adeleke’s victory as a triumph for democracy and commended Osun voters for defending their mandate.

“Osun: When the People Stand, Democracy Wins,” Obi wrote.

He said the result demonstrated the importance of citizens remaining engaged in the electoral process and urged Nigerians to maintain active participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi also called on political actors to prioritise the interests of citizens while promoting peace, unity and respect for the rule of law.

Adeleke’s victory gives him another four-year term after he first became governor in 2022 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He later defected to the Accord Party in December 2025.

Following his re-election, Adeleke extended an olive branch to his opponents, saying there was “no victor, no vanquished” and urging his co-contestants to work with his administration for the development of Osun State.
