Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema has said he will not be drawn into the 2027 senatorial race for Delta South at this time, despite mounting pressure from youth groups and supporters across the district.
In a statement issued on Monday, Edema expressed appreciation for the endorsement by the Itsekiri Youths for Good Governance and other stakeholders, describing their support as a “powerful reminder” of the shared aspirations for the region.
However, he stated that his immediate priority remains his current role as Sole Representative of the Olu of Warri to NNPCL and joint venture partners, a responsibility he said demands full commitment and focus.
“This is not just a position—it is a duty to our people, to our future, and to the trust reposed in me,” he said, adding that he would not allow political distractions to derail ongoing engagements tied to the role.
Edema clarified that he has not taken any decision regarding participation in the 2027 general elections.
On the broader political landscape, he reaffirmed his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his political structure is already mobilised towards that objective.
He also pledged commitment to the continuity of governance in Delta State through the re-election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, stressing that stability remains critical for sustained development.
The Warri prince further hinted at efforts to reposition representation at the federal level, revealing that consultations are ongoing to identify credible candidates for the Warri Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the current representation, saying it has not delivered tangible benefits to the people.
Edema assured supporters that consultations are ongoing and that any future political decision would be communicated directly to the people when the time is right.
“The call has not pressured me; it has strengthened my resolve to serve with greater dedication,” he said.
